And old Dead head buddy of mine long ago told me the way to judge Half-Step Mississippi Uptown was during the Jam after the verses and before the "Across The Lazy River" chorus. Okay. Ever since that day I have tried to listen for that spot. Some shows it is short, to the point right into the chorus, others... well, here is one we ALWAYS liked -

Just an amazing Jam>Across The Rio Grande section and perhaps the highlight of the show, which is saying quite alot. I love the chorus vocals and the sweet harmony between Jerry and Donna, and the solo by Jerry is over the TOP!!!

Definitely agree with that philosophy on MS Half Step. My favorites are 5-7-77, 9-3-77, 11-5-77, the aforementioned 11-6 and 4-15-78.

Perhaps the definitive Half Step and one of the best first sets of '77.

11-06-1977 has always ranked very high, in fact '77 was a great year for Half-Steps, including the outstanding 09-03-1977 version and to a slightly lesser extent 04-30-1977

Right up my alley, I love this song and this whole show. I'm sure you've heard 12/31/72, my personal favorite version. The closing is beautiful and these early takes on half-steps are just so jazzy
